Lord Help Us Procrastinators!!

Proverbs 27:1Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

Well, I have been putting this off long enough!!  I am going to (By the grace of God) begin today to daily post a thought for the day.  A “Living In Spite Of” thought if you will.  I have been wanting to do this for a long time and I have been afraid of the commitment that it will take to get this done.  My hope is that it will be an encouragement to those that will read these posts.  I will be brief, but hopefully helpful.

The text verse for today is one that Joann (My wife of almost 43 years) and I adopted as a sort of “life’s verse” as we cared for our son Johnny, that had special needs.  Reason is, we never knew what each day would bring.  For many years the thought of a day taking an unexpected turn brought a lot of anxiety into our lives.  The worry of what “may” happen at times controlled our thinking.

When things were going good, I would always worry what problem was on the horizon.  I would wonder when the next shoe was about to drop and we would end up in the emergency room, or some other issue would arise.

One day it hit me, well the Bible hit me, Matthew 6:34 “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”  Basically this verse tells us not to worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will take care of itself!  You have enough to deal with today.  This revolutionized my thinking.  Instead of wondering when something bad was going to happen, I decided to enjoy the good times in life!!  I realized I was missing out on the great times I could enjoy today, worrying about what may happen tomorrow.

The old saying, “One day at a time” is such good advice for us all.  If you are having a good day, learn to enjoy the moment.  Life will take it’s turns whether we are looking for it to happen or not.  We also need to learn to love others today and not wait until tomorrow to let them know.  Yesterday is a cancelled check, tomorrow is a promissory note, today is the only cash we have, spend it wisely.

Go out and enjoy today!
