Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Throughout Jesus’ ministry He healed many people that had physical problems. The blind received sight, the deaf became hearing, the lame walked…all by the power of the All Mighty God. Jesus performed these miracles to prove that He was God in the flesh, the long awaited Messiah.
As He ministered in His “home town” of Nazareth, He went into the synagogue and read from the book of Isaiah, Isaiah 61:1. He sat back down and said, “This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears,” referencing the fact that He is the chosen Messiah that all Israel was waiting for. His ministry was being fulfilled in their lifetime.
Thank the Lord, that Jesus’ may not be walking the earth today in the flesh, but His ministry is ongoing. The gospel is still being preached to the poor (the spiritually broke), deliverance is still being given to those in captivity (bound by sin), those that are blind receive sight (blind to the truth of the Word of God), people that have been bruised by the world, are set free!!
I intentionally skipped the part of Jesus’ ministry that I want us to focus on today, that is, He was sent to heal the broken hearted. Jesus came to give this world so much that is missed by many, but the healing of broken hearts is a part of His ministry that has been the biggest blessing to me since my salvation. Times when my heart has been crushed by circumstances, hurt by people or saddened by grief, that’s when I have known the presence of my Savior more than any other times in my life. He has always been faithful to show me He is real and with me as I have wept and cried to Him.
Friend, today the Lord wants to heal your broken heart. Whatever has given you grief, sadness, or pain of heart, take it to Him. Allow the Lord to minister to that need in your life. He is waiting for you to ask for His help, His ministry to you is available. I know that sounds easy, “Just turn it over to the Lord,” but He specializes in healing our broken hearts. When you give it to Him, I know you will experience a new intimacy with the Lord through your times of sorrow. Remember that Jesus wept with Martha and Mary after the death of their brother, Lazarus. He wants to comfort you also.
Allow the Lord Jesus to minister to you today.
