Isaiah 53:3-4 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
The words, “I know just what you are going through” for the most part, are words that fall short of being true. I mean, we are all different and react differently to our experiences. We can go through similar circumstances, yet we have different levels of emotions that we will go through. I have always recommended to people that want to be an encouragement to others, not to say that to someone. Truth is we are all different and we can never know how someone else feels.
Jesus however, is not like us. He is God, our creator and Lord. He does know exactly what we are going through. He not only knows, but experienced in His flesh the grief and the sorrow that we go through here on earth. He was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. He not only knows what we are going through, but can relate to our pain and heartache.
Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
In His flesh Jesus was not only tempted and tried like we are, He experienced sorrow, grief and pain like us.
The Lord also took our griefs and sorrows upon Himself! The grief and the sorrow of our sin went with Jesus to the cross, He bore them for us. WHAT A SAVIOR!!! Our nature is to hold onto the guilt, sorrow and grief of our sin. We are unwilling to forgive our selves, we carry that sorrow for our past transgressions with us often. Remember that all our sins were nailed to the cross with the Lord.
We will have times of sorrow and grief in our lifetime, and Jesus will be there to comfort us as often as we need Him. However, we should NOT carry the grief and sorrow over our past sins. Jesus bore them for us. We have been forgiven, if we have asked, and He doesn’t hold us guilty any more!! He paid the price for us, let’s live in the light of God’s forgiveness and enjoy life. Our sorrows and grief for sin went to Calvary!!
