Know That He Cares

1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

There are times in life when we hurt very deeply, and it seems as though no cares about what we are going through.  People can seem cold and somewhat heartless.  Recently I was in a discussion with a group of parents that had lost children.  We all had different stories, yet the common thread in the conversation was, that many people just didn’t understand, nor seemed to care.  Well, the truth is if you haven’t lost a child, it is impossible to understand.  However, I believe that most people do care.  They just don’t know how to help, so rather than saying something inappropriate, they say nothing.  I can tell you from experience, that if you don’t know what to say to someone in grief, just being there to let them talk is a help you won’t fully understand, unless you have been there.  You cannot fix anyone’s grief, but you can listen, and by doing so encourage someone more than you will know.

Times when we feel that no one cares can be very difficult.  That is when we need to cast our cares, our worries, our anxieties upon the Lord.  Why?  Because He cares for us.  When we get into the mindset that no one cares, we will start feeling sorry for ourselves, that’s when a downward spiral of thoughts begins and can lead to a state of negativity and depression.  The Lord cares and knows exactly what we are going through and how we feel.  He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.

To live in the reality of the Lord’s care takes a great measure of faith.  We need to be willing to tell Him how we feel and believe that He hears us.  When we have a need to speak to someone about what is bothering us, we would be wise to talk to the Lord first.  People will let us down, but the Lord always has a listening ear.

Take your cares to the Lord today.  Don’t live with the expectation that other people are to be our comfort.  Let Jesus comfort you, because He really does care.
