1 Timothy 6:3-6 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
Paul again is encouraging his friend Timothy to be content. There were teachers and preachers back in Paul’s day that would preach a prosperity message, that if you were in right relationship with God, you would have great gain or possessions. But, Paul refutes that line of preaching by letting Timothy know, that living in right relationship with God is not a road to wealth, but a road to contentment, and that makes you wealthy. You may not have riches, but you will have a rich life!
Many preachers and teachers of today try to bring the same message. Most of the time they tell you to send them money as a “seed of faith.” Friend what we need is to be satisfied with the life we are living today!! Have a walk with the Lord that is close. A life of enjoying fellowship with the one who saved your soul. Strive to be content right where the Lord has you now. Then you will have the true riches of life.
We won’t be able to take our earthly possessions with us to heaven, but the benefits of living content with Jesus will follow us throughout eternity!! Let’s not be bound to this earth by seeing how much we can accumulate. Let’s strive to be content to hear, “Well done thou good and faithful servant.”
