John 18:37-38 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
Before going to the cross to die for the sins of the world, Jesus stood before Pilate as a man falsely accused of the Jews. An innocent man that willingly came to this time in His life to do His Father’s will. In His conversation with Pilate, He tells him that He came into the world to bear witness of the truth. Pilate’s response is pretty typical of most people today, “What is truth?” The world seems more confused than ever as to what is true and what isn’t. People want to have their own truths and reject anyone that disagrees with their version of truth.
Hours before Jesus was taken into custody, He was praying to the Father for his disciples then and those of today.
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Jesus declares the Word of God to be truth. There is one thing that has stayed consistent through the centuries, that is the truth of the Bible. Many disagree with it, they try to deny it, they even try to change it. But, the Word of God will last forever. It is reliable, factual and effectual. Jesus came and fulfilled the prophecies concerning the Messiah, the Christ, the Savior of the world and the King of the Jews. All the truths written hundreds of years before he came to earth, came to pass in His birth, life, death and resurrection.
Friend, without truth we have nothing to stand on or believe in. The Bible changed my life and the lives of countless millions of people throughout history. Because, it is true! I hope at this time of Easter you will ponder your relationship with the truth. Pilate didn’t realize as he asked that question, that the truth was standing right in front of him.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
May you believe the truth of God this Easter.
