Preparations for Anxiety!

We all have times of anxiety, times when situations come upon us that give us a heightened sense of nervousness and apprehension.  Big events in our lives can really get us anxious as they approach, and other times circumstances will come upon us suddenly, that can make us panic if we are not prepared for them.

Preparing for unexpected events and those that we plan for, comes down to a trust in the Lord.  He has given us the key to not allowing our stressful situations to overcome us, but rather, we may overcome them by His power.

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

The word “careful” literally means to be filled with care, or to be anxious.  The Lord tells us that we should pray rather than allow anxiety to overcome us.  In other words, as we prepare for the big events that we know are coming, and will cause us much stress; we need to pray about those events with a honest heart.  “Lord I know that there will be much anxiety associated with the upcoming event, please keep me from stressing out over it.”  That seems like a reasonable thing to do, however how many times do we avail ourselves to the power of prayer in our stressful situations?

Then during those time of immediate stress we need to call out to the Lord as soon as they appear.  Those quick prayers from the heart that asks God for immediate help; like Peter, when he walked on the water to Jesus, only to begin to sink, “Lord save me!”

Our anxiety must be met with prayer.  So the best way to prepare for those anxious moments is to make prayer a regular routine of our lives.  Praying for the big events and the surprise events that will come up.  Thanking God for His comfort and peace that will replace the anxious moments of life.

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Let’s not get stressed out today.  Get prepared for whatever may happen!
