Interested or Committed to Walk With God?

We can have an interest in many different qualities of life; we can be interested in losing weight for example, or getting into better physical shape.  However, having an interest doesn’t change anything, there is no action associated with an interest other than maybe doing some research into diets or exercise.  Nothing really takes place until we move from being interested to committed.  Once we are committed then we take responsibility and begin making the necessary changes to get results.

Many Christians are interested in having a walk with the Lord.  They are interested in God’s blessing, answered prayer, seeing the hand of God move in miraculous ways.  They may even read books on prayer and people of great faith and become inspired by them.  Yet, they never move from interested to committed.  In order to, have God’s blessings, experiencing answered prayer, and seeing the hand of God move in miraculous ways; you need to make the move from just having an interest in the things of God, to committing yourself to them.

Psalm 37:4-5 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

We love to quote this passage, believing that if we delight ourselves in the Lord He will give us our desires.  But, what if our desires are ungodly?  Just enjoying being saved is not all that is involved in seeing our desires met.  Delight in the things of God, the things He likes, the things He desires for our lives.  Then COMMIT our ways (our life, our actions, our motives) unto the Lord, then, He will bring it to pass.  Too often our desires and the Lord’s desire for us are different.

When we take action to go from interested to committed, our life, desires and actions begin to change.  When that happens, be sure, that you will meet resistance on many fronts.  Your flesh will fight against the change, the devil will fight against the change, even friends and family won’t always be happy with the change…But, the Lord will be happy.  You will see the blessings of God that are much different than the blessings of a interested Christian.  Your prayer life will change, you will pray differently than before; you will see God move in ways you have never seen, you will begin to see the small miracles that you never noticed before.

Are you willing to move from interested to committed in your walk with the Lord?  Over the next few days I will give you some Biblical principles that will help you to make the move.  If you’re not ready to make the move…read anyway, you may just change your mind!
