Many Christians have an interest in the Word of God. After all, it is through the Word that people are saved. Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. God’s Word penetrates our heart and we realize that we are sinners in need of forgiveness. The Word teaches us that Jesus paid for our sins by his death on the cross, was buried and rose again on the third day. The Bible also tells us that if we call upon the name of the Lord with a repentant heart, He will save us. That is the gospel according to the Bible. So if we claim that we are Christians, then we must have the testimony that we have been saved the Bible way, because there is no other way. So every Christian has an interest in the Word of God.
The problem is that God desires that we have more than an interest in His Word.
John 8:30-32 As he spake these words, many believed on him. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Being a Disciple of Jesus Christ means to follow Him and His teachings. In order to follow His teachings, you need to know what they are. That doesn’t mean we sit in church and allow the Pastor to spoon feed us once or twice a week. Even if we are committed to the church, we still need to feed ourselves on the Word of God Daily.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
In the last two passages that we read, the Bible declares itself to be the truth, not a truth, but THE truth. In todays world people want to say there are many truths. No, there cannot be many truths, especially when the truths contradict each other. There can only be one truth, and it is God’s Word.
The point is, that we need to move from being interested in the Word of God, to being committed to it. Study it, learn it, believe it and follow it! If we are truly committed to having a walk with God that will produce the desired fruit; then we must make the Word of God a big part of our daily life! No longer being interested, but committed to the Word and allowing it to change our life.
