It seems odd to me that I cannot remember details of important information I have been given, sermons, Bible verses, details about other peoples lives. Yet, I can remember lyrics from songs that I listened to over 50 years ago! Then there are those little songs from commercials that stay with us throughout the day, that we can’t get out of our minds.
Psalm 40 begins with a wonderful truth, that God gives us a new song!
Psalm 40:1-3 I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.
Many times in our lives we are up against hard circumstances or facing some heartbreaking challenges and we don’t know what to do, or where to turn. David says, that he cried out to the Lord and waited patiently for Him to move.
The Lord heard and answered his request. He took David from where he was, to where he desired to be. The Lord gave David new direction in his life and put a new song in his mouth.
Many times we keep on singing an old tune in our situations, usually the blues. When we come up against tough circumstances, we need to respond like David did. Cry out to the Lord, wait patiently for Him to move, trust Him to do the work. Then, when He does move in our situation, start singing His praises so others will see and know that God has moved on our behalf and they can gain a trust in God for themselves.
Pray about your problems and instead of singing the blues, start singing “Victory in Jesus!”
